Yoga for Beginners in Wellingborough
New to Yoga? lets answer some common questions.
If you’re looking for Beginners Yoga in Wellingborough or Wisbech, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re completely new to yoga or returning after time away, starting can feel uncertain — and that’s completely normal. This page is designed to answer your questions, explain what yoga really is, and help you decide if it’s right for you, so you can book your first class feeling relaxed, confident, and supported.
What is Yoga?
When I ask people what they think Yoga is more often than not they come back with "Isn't it just stretching?" "I've heard there is lots of breathing and sitting about" "It's for girls and old people" or even "nah Yoga is weird and not for me".

But what is Yoga really? Well it is a magical and wonderful combination of Physical exercise (asana), Breathing exercises (Pranayama) and Meditation. I realise that didn't really clear anything up so lets dive in.

-
Asana: This is the physical movement and poses, in my classes I keep it simple, steady and accessible. The poses are designed to strengthen your body, build resilience and generally make you more comfortable. We incorporate forward folds, twists, stretches, dynamic strength work and some long held poses. Nothing scary really.

-
Pranayama: I know it might sound crazy but most of us don't know how to breathe properly or the affect it can have on our physical bodies and our mental state. In class we learn how breathing in certain ways can give us more energy, how we can use it to bring strength and stability to our spines and core, and how it can help keep us calm when the world gets a bit (or a lot) stressful.

-
Meditation: This is the real main event, where it all comes together and where Yoga moves from physical exercise to something that makes life that little bit sweeter. Meditation can help us to find stillness for sure, but it can also help us to process emotions, identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours but it also helps us to connect to that beautiful and peaceful part of ourselves. And trust me it is there even if you can't see it just yet.

What do I wear?

It is important to be comfortable and have room to move. Yoga isn't a fashion show, even if social media likes it to seem that way. Most people wear light loose fitting trousers or leggings and a comfortable top. And if the weather is a bit chilly you can always bring a blanket for relaxing at the end of class.
Am I flexible enough?
The simple answer is Yes. Despite popular belief Yoga isn't all about being flexible or being able to contort your body. My Yoga classes are about building stability and strength in the body in a gentle and manageable way. No insane poses, no handstands, nothing you can't manage.

What if I've never done Yoga?
We all have to start somewhere, and all of us were beginners at some point. Yes even I was a beginner and got my left and right mixed up, had to look at the teacher every time they changed pose. But that's the journey, none of us are experts straight away and our lovely community are there to help guide and support you every step of the way.
What happens in my first class?
When you turn up you will be greeted by a happy bunch of people at the door, we all like to meet and go into the studio together. Once the class begins I will show and guide you through a series of poses at a pace that is easy to follow, we will build some heat in the body, work with our breathing (pranayama) and meditate together.
